Hungate Outreach

The Dig Hungate Outreach Programme provides excellent opportunities to get involved in an innovative investigation into York's rich past, including site tours, training courses, "Meet the Archaeologists" classroom experiences and community archaeology. Dig Hungate offers a range of accessible activities that can be tailored to the needs of specific groups, these include:

Interactive workshops, based on the archaeology and history of Hungate. The workshops can be held at the dig in the Hungate Headquarters or off-site in schools, community/youth centres, education centres, residential homes, etc. Workshop activities can include, amongst others, artefact handling, archaeology techniques, archive investigation and oral history.


Bespoke tours of the Hungate dig for special interest groups/societies as well as the full range of educational institutions. All tours will be led by a member of the Hungate team.

Illustrated talks and lectures about the up to date discoveries being made at Hungate.

Attractions Outreach

Invite a costumed character into your classroom with a full range of artefacts and resources and discover what life was like living in that era. 

Periods include: Roman, Viking, Tudor and Victorian.

Or why not invite an archaeologist into your classroom and learn more about the methods they use and the artefacts they find.
