Accommodation will be available from 11th July during the summer training excavation. When accommodation is not available, trainees should arrange their own accommodation (there is a wide range of hotel, B&B and hostel accommodation in York).
The accommodation is at the University of York campus, Heslington, York, in a modern self-contained 10 bedded house. Single rooms are provided, with wash hand basins (all bedding is supplied but bring your own towels), shared toilets, bath and shower rooms and fully fitted kitchen with dining area. All the rooms and the shared front door are lockable.
There is an on-site convenience store, laundrette, bar and fast-food outlet. You also have the use of University facilities including the cafeteria in the Halls of Residence. The accommodation is a 5 minute walk from Heslington village with shops, banks, pubs and buses to York. There is a regular bus service from campus to the excavation site. The site is 40 minutes away on foot, or 20 minutes by bike.
Trainees book a room from Sunday to Sunday, allowing time to arrive on the first Sunday and see the City after their training course end on the Friday, departing on the morning of the Sunday after their course ends.
Trainees are advised to arrive from around 3pm onwards and check in at the Halifax College reception. There will be a placement from the training dig on hand to help you settle into the building when you arrive there.
Full details of accommodation will be supplied on booking.
